Mantle Bridge: How Much MNT Should You Keep?

Keep enough MNT on Mantle to pay for the actions you plan to make there. A Mantle bridge transfer can deliver your USDC, but USDC alone cannot pay Mantle Network transaction fees.

If your funds start on another chain, a cross-chain service can move your assets and swap part of them into MNT in one flow; fast Mantle bridge transfers can leave you with both spending funds and gas on Mantle. Compare that route with bridging first and getting MNT separately after arrival.

Why do you need MNT after bridging?

MNT pays the network fee for each transaction you send on Mantle Network. Think of it like keeping a little local cash for each action: having USDC in your wallet does not cover the fee.

For example, using USDC in an app may take two transactions: one to approve the app to use your USDC, then one to deposit or swap it. An approval is permission for a contract to spend tokens up to a set amount. The Ethereum Improvement Proposals’ ERC-20 standard describes this approval system; some apps or tokens may work differently.

So estimate MNT for the whole plan, not just the first transaction. A wallet’s fee estimate can change with the action and network conditions. Mantle’s technical documentation explains that transaction costs depend on the work a transaction performs and the current fee conditions.

How should you compare ways to get that MNT?

Compare the final amount you receive and whether you can make your next transaction without another transfer. One route may send USDC and MNT together; another may deliver only USDC, leaving you to arrange a separate MNT top-up.

Suppose you plan to bridge 100 USDC, then deposit it into an app. If the route can also leave you with MNT, count the cost of that swap in the total. If it cannot, check how you would obtain MNT after arrival; your first transaction may require it, so a swap on Mantle could be out of reach until you have gas.

Keep the amount tied to your plan. If you only want to hold USDC, you may need MNT for one transfer later. If you plan to approve and deposit, allow for both actions, plus any further swap you expect to make. There is no fixed amount that fits every wallet or day.

What should you check before choosing?

Check that the destination asset is MNT on Mantle Network, rather than a token with the same ticker on another chain. Also compare the displayed amount after any swap with the amount you need for your planned transactions.

A Mantle bridge route that delivers only your main asset can still work if you already have MNT on Mantle or have a clear way to get it there. If you do not, choose a route that accounts for gas before you commit, so your funds arrive ready for the next action.
